Asylum accommodation by region and nation
The twelve English regions and UK nations side by side: how many supported people each holds, how many are in hotels, and how that compares with the size of the population living there.
North West holds the most supported asylum seekers of any UK region or nation at 18,962, which is 20.3% of the UK total. Measured against resident population, North East is highest at 25.5 per 10,000 residents.
Every column is a sum of the same published per-authority counts, or a rate whose two halves come from that same file — the accommodation count for an area and the resident population of that area. Nothing here is compared across publishers or counting bases.
A region holding more people is not evidence of anything on its own: dispersal is directed under contract, and the areas that carry most are not the areas that chose to. The per-10,000 column is here because a raw count mostly measures how many people already live somewhere.

The change column is the difference between 30 Jun 2024 and 31 Mar 2026 as a count. It is not annualised and not given as a percentage: the series is short, and on the smaller regions a percentage would say less than the two numbers it came from. A dash in the hotel column means no hotel accommodation is recorded in that region or nation, not that the figure is missing.
Reading the table
12 of the 12 regions and nations record hotel accommodation. The gap between the count column and the per-10,000 column is the point of putting them together: the region holding the largest number of people is not necessarily the one carrying the most relative to the people already living there, and arguments about this subject frequently use one number while meaning the other.
